Unique Pasta and Noodle Gift Ideas

The holiday season is nearly here and I can almost feel the wintry air, taste the mulled wine, and hear the sleigh bells jingling.

Whether you are looking to treat yourself to a new pasta/noodle machine or for something posh and unique to gift to others, here are some ideas that will help take noodle and pasta making to the next level.

1) Philips Noodle and Pasta Maker

This is the ultimate gadget for a noodle-making fanatic, and I was in love at first sight!

The Philips 7000 pasta and noodle maker can mix, knead, and extrude fresh pasta in less than 15 minutes. You just add the ingredients and it will automatically make fresh homemade pasta or noodles from scratch.

It comes with 8 shaping discs (including Spaghetti, Fettucini, Penne and Lasagne/Dumplings) as well as a flat scraping/cleaning tool, flour cup and water cup. You can use the spaghetti disc for making Chinese egg noodles or Japanese ramen noodles and the fettuccini disk can be used for making a wider and flatter Chinese egg noodle. You can also buy more accessories for different shapes and thinness of noodles.

2) Hand Crank Pasta Machine

If you prefer a more traditional machine, this Italian-made hand crank pasta maker from Marcato Atlas is the way to go.

I love that it comes in lots of different colors so you can personalize this gift to your recipient’s favorite hue: buy it in blue, light blue, red, pink, copper, gold, black, green, or the traditional chrome.

We have two of these (one for me, one for my parents) and the one in my house is permanently clamped onto our kitchen counter. You can read my review about the Marcato Atlas 150 here.

This a perfect gift for households with children so the kids can be part of the noodle/pasta making experience (great for their gross motor skills too). My kids love using this pasta machine to crank out noodles and the best part is the pride and joy on their faces when they’re sitting at the dining table and slurping up the finished product.

Out of the box, you can use the Marcato Atlas pasta machine to make lasagne, fettuccine, and tagliolini noodles.

I use the tagliolini cutter to make ramen noodles and Chinese egg noodles. I use the fettuccine cutter to make thicker egg noodles. If you need recipes for making homemade Asian noodles from scratch, click here for all my tutorials.

If your gift recipient already has one of these machines, then consider getting them extra attachments or the electric motor attachment.

3) Kitchen Aid Pasta Roller and Cutter Attachments

For those who already have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, this attachment set of a pasta roller and 2 cutters makes the perfect Kitchen Aid gift.

In fact, I just gifted this to myself, so be sure to look out for my review coming soon.

This Kitchen Aid attachment set comes with a pasta roller that makes 6-inch sheets of pasta with 8 thickness settings, a spaghetti cutter, and a fettuccine cutter.  Make the dough in the stand mixer and then feed it through the attachments for easy pasta and noodle making.

4) Drying Rack for Pasta and Noodles

Can a noodle accessory be sexy?

I bought myself one of those simple wooden pasta/noodle drying racks but when I saw this one from Marcato and I thought, “Wow, I want!”

This Marcato pasta and noodle rack marries form and function, holds up to 4.5 lbs (2 kg) of pasta and comes in seven colors: red, blue, black, green, gold, pink, and clear. Get one to match the color of your Marcato Atlas pasta machine.

5) Soba Knife Set

For the noodle-maker who’s already mastered how to make Japanese ramen and udon, the next challenge would be Japanese soba and this soba noodle starter set (sans knife) would make a wonderful gift. Don’t forget this soba knife.

Here’s a caveat though: soba flour is difficult to find even at specialty Asian supermarkets but you can order online at Anson Mills.
