This is just a quick post to share some of the photos from our last-minute getaway to the Maldives during the Islamic New Year long-weekend.
We stayed at Jumeirah Dhevanafushi for four nights and loved every second of it. Although the flight from Dubai to Male (the Maldivian capital) is only four hours, we had to transfer to a small plane at Male to Kaadedhdoo (50 minutes flight time) and then a speed boat (20 minutes) to reach Meradhoo – the island where the resort was located.
A beautiful, idyllic retreat with spacious guest villas and our own private pool and amazing snorkeling right in front of our beach – we couldn’t have been happier.
Needless to say, we spent most of our time by the pool or by the beach.
Wee Scotch and Scotch devised a toddler-friendly piggy-back snorkeling method. Whenever Scotch found interesting sea life, he would alert Wee Scotch who would then stick his head underwater to find all the little fishies.
Scotch and I had time for one dive on the house reef. I wish I had more underwater photos to share but they didn’t turn our so great.
We spent cocktail hour each evening enjoying the sunset by the main pool while Wee Scotch splashed around with his pirate ship and made sand castles.
A short and sweet vacation and then it was “Bye Bye Maldives!”

You brought back a lot of memories… Back in 1998, I had stayed in Maldives for 2 months – in the Vilamendhoo Island in the South Atoll ( I think). S was there for work and I too assisted him… 2 hours of snorkeling and walking on the sand in the moonlight. Alas – no digital camera in those days. Blessing in disguise I guess as I put everything my my memory cells rather than the memory card. I loved ur scuba diving post.
2 months?! How lucky 🙂 You must tell me about it one day in person.

It was one of the most idyllic trips we’ve made yet. If you haven’t been, jump on a plane now for the Maldives 🙂
Wow. Beautiful pictures! I’m sure even the view from the small plane at Male to Kaadedhdoo was gorgeous. Also, the toddler-friendly piggy-back snorkeling idea is brilliant. It made sure Wee Scotch didn’t miss out on the snorkeling fun just because he’s still little.
Wee Scotch is very creative at his age 🙂
