Please Note (Oct 1, 2011): The Korean supermarket at Safestway has RELOCATED to a new location by Safa Park just a few doors down from Just Kidding and the new name is A MART.

I have updated the information and directions on my Map of Asian Grocery Stores (under “A Mart”)

*   *   *   *   *

Thanks to comments left by ellen and Nerissa, I checked out the new Korean supermarket in the Safestway market (on Sheik Zayad Road just south of the Mazaya Center).

Woo-hoo! Now I don’t have to drive all the way to Karama for my Korean fix!

Thanks a lot. Ive always enjoyed far-East food and had difficulty finding my favourite Chinese ingredients in Dubai. Ive seen Safestway hundreds of times and never even thought of going inside, til now!

hi nicole – within the blog post (above) is the link of the google map with directions (should be listed under “Asiana @ Safestway”)

I don’t have a contact number for them at the moment, sorry. Next time I am there, I will try to get it and add it to the map.

instant noodles are all halal unless they are specifically sold in the pork section so you shouldn’t have any problems.

as for Chinese black bean sauce, i have bought them in most major supermarkets like Al Maya, Choithrams, Spinney’s, Waitrose, etc. It is sold in a jar or bottle where the Chinese sauces are (such as Hoisin sauce, Plum Sauce, Satay Sauce, etc). You just have to look around because it isn’t always consistently stocked. for the actual Chinese black beans, you may have to try the Chinese supermarkets in International city – that’s where I bought my last packet.

hope this helps.
