Bubble Tea Craving

I went to Smiling BKK by Al Wasl road for some Thai food last week. The food was disgusting so don’t even think of going there unless you are a glutton for punishment or do not care about eating good food as our chicken appetizer was served still raw and the seafood noodles had more shells than actual seafood, and the stir-fry beef with noodles was more soup than stir-fry.

I did however enjoy the Thai iced tea. It reminded me a little bit of Bubble Tea that I used to get in the Chinatowns of New York. So now I have a huge craving for taro Bubble Tea (in the image below, it’s the one on the far right).

Bubble Tea

Don’t know if I can find Bubble Tea here in Dubai – but I will try Karama where I found the Korean grocery and maybe even Deira where I found the two Chinese groceries. Wish me luck!

Plan B would be to order a Bubble Tea kit off of Amazon.com.

The restaurant had been recommended to us and we were planning to go this week. Hmmmm..I might re-think that.

(The little Thai restaurant Ruan Thai on Al Diyafah Road in Satwa is good)

Ruan Thai…will give it a try.

Smiling BKK served me raw chicken (which they wouldn’t take off the bill at first), food was bland, and quality of the meats and seafood left much to be desired. I grew up eating street food and chinatown food and this was levels below that.

Wow! We’ve been to Smiling BKK a few times and liked it on the whole.

Went this Friday and had a disappointing dish but generally speaking we are a fan. It appears we’ve been lucky and if we have any more repeats of the last yucky dish (thought it was a one off) then we will re-think!

Very interested in directions to Korean gorcery store though – tell me more!!!!

xx

Hi bubble Tea,

can i know if you still sell black tapioca balls and the rest of the ingredients? wanted it so badly and it’s hard to find shops or reso’s that sell here in UAE specifically here in Sharjah. If I buy whole package, meaning the tapioca, tea powder and the rest of the ingredients will you teach me how to make it? Because I only know how to buy and consume them.

Please send me details on my email incl. its prized and flavor og the bubble tea powder.

Thanks.

There is a real authentic bubble tea in Modern Hansik Restaurant in Al Nahda 1 (at the back of Blue Mars Supermarket). It’s called Quickly Bubble Tea. Apparently, it’s the biggest Taiwanese bubble tea brand in the world. I found out about it in San Francisco because they have a lot of Quickly Cafes out there. I just had it two days ago and it’s the real thing!!! I also got their number because they also deliver 050-357-0681 or 04-254-7748. I think their store hours is 12noon to 12 midnight. But just call them to double check. :D
